UDENU  LABOUR PARTY CHAIRMAN FACES SUSPENSION OVER  ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT OF FUND ;

The Labour Party Executive of Udenu Local Government Area has taken steps to pass a vote of no confidence in their chairman,Mr #Iziga Nwonu over allegations of embezzlement, lack of transparency, and poor leadership.

The controversy began in January 2024, when the LG Executives accused Mr Nwonu, of non-transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, which they cited as the bedrock of the Labour Party’s values.

The executives complained of being excluded from party affairs, including the local government primary election, and accused #Nwonu of withholding funds meant for the party.

They said that the preliminary investigation revealed that Nwonu had collected N600,000 from #chairmanship aspirants and kept it without the executives’ knowledge.

Additionally, Nwonu allegedly failed to account for funds raised and spent during party activities, including a prayer rally.

#Nwonu was accused of borrowing money under false pretenses, claiming it was for party activities while using it for personal purpose there by tarnishing the party’s image.

The executive criticized him for bypassing executive members in decision-making processes, organizing secret meetings with ward chairmen, and making questionable financial claims.

After enduring months of unaccounted finances and failed promises, the executives are now taking steps to suspend him over the allegation which Nwonu never denied and he is yet to refund the monies in contention.

There was, however, a mild drama as the embattled chairman allegedly disrupted presentation of findings of the local government executive committee to the expanded local government working committee of the party, possibly to avoid adoption.

A committee was inaugurated to ascertain the veracity of the allegations as contained in the report under the chairmanship of Dr. Frank Omeje, Barr. Emeka Abah, Jude Ogbu (Nobility), among others.

A member of the party, who wished to remain anonymous, accused the LP State Chairman Barr. #Casmir Agbo of attempting to shield Nwonu from suspension.

He claimed that Nwonu was boasting of having the protection of the state chairman and further accused the state chairman of complicity in the matter.

Others said the party chairman is a man of integrity and advised people from joining the state chairman with Mr Nwonu’s criminal act.

They claimed that some disgruntled individuals were only dropping his name noting that people should be responsible for their action and inactions.
