Sen.Ike Ekweremadu VISIT TO ENUGU CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

A VISIT TO ENUGU CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

I visited the Enugu correctional facility of the Nigeria Correctional Service earlier today along with the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Toby Okechukwu and Member representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Hon. Dennis Oguerinwa Amadi. We were received by the Controller of Corrections, Enugu State and his team.

I had the opportunity to interact, counsel, and pray with some of the inmates. I paid the fines of 8 inmates, who have been there for long because they had nobody to assist them. So, they can now regain their freedoms and also rejoin their families a d friends this Christmas.

I also undertook to do a water project at the facility starting from next week to improve the living conditions of the inmates.

There is still so much to be done and the onus is on governments and public-spirited organisations and individuals alike. These are called correctional facilities because it is expected that even people, who have been convicted, will leave the facilities as better persons.
