The Chairman Transition Committee Udenu Local Government, Hon Solomon Izuchukwu ona, has really hit the ground running with many firsts, evidencing his thirst for excellence in service delivery to the rural masses.
Upon assumption of office, the Chairman summoned an emergency Security meeting where all pending cases within the rank and file of the Udenu Neighborhood Watch was dispassionately deliberated on and effectively brought to a logical conclusion, thus bringing sanity to bear in the operation and command structure of the community policing arm.
The Chairman used the opportunity to draw the attention of the security agencies to the security challenges associated with the influx of people during festive periods and charged all organs to be proactive and result driven to ensure a hitch free Yuletide and thereafter.
Desirous of mitigating the challenges of water supply to the masses especially during the Yuletide season, the Council Chairman gave a marching order to the Town Engineer, Godwin Utazi to ensure that the water borehole situate within the premises of the Council Secretariat and designed to serve the precinct communities of Ohulor Obollo, Ulo n'obollo, Udunedem and Igugu Communities be activated and made functional.
It is heartwarming that few hours after that directive, the borehole is functioning at full capacity.
Speaking shortly after fetching the first gallon of water, a jubilant Mrs Rose Onah said that it was the height of sensitivity and an uncommon appreciation of the pains the people pass through to access drinking water that made the Council Chairman take the great step. She thanked the Chairman, praying for more wisdom to address the concerns of the people.
In his reaction, one of security agent who lives around the council Secretariat thanked the Chairman for his thoughtfulness, adding that the greatest challenge faced by the people is water supply. Says he "water is life. No one can survive without it. In reactivating this borehole, the Chairman has given us life and we thank him profoundly while wishing him well.
In a further development, the Chairman charged the Town Engineer to expedite action on the immediate repair and fortification of the portion of the Council perimeter fencing which had fallen due to flood water cascading off the major road, as well as ensure that the adjoining drainages were cleaned up to ensure free flow of runway water into the discharge path.
The Chairman today, felicitated with the good people of Udenu Local Government Area, wishing them merry Xmas and eventful and prosperous new year, adding that the Council will do every thing within it's legitimate powers to ensure good governance delivery, effective all inclusive Administration with the greatest happiness of the greatest number as its priority.
