WARNING BY JONATHAN

Stop Killing Nigerians For Power, Jonathan Warns Desperate Politicians Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday warned politicians to stop killing people for the sake of gaining political office. Jonathan was speaking against the backdrop of violence that trailed the elections in Bayelsa, Kogi States as well as other African countries in recent times. The immediate past president, who was honoured with an honorary degree of doctor of science at the 17th convocation of Igbinedion University, Okada, lamented that African politicians were systematically replacing military coups with civilian coups. “Let me plead with my fellow politicians, they should stop killing the people, destroying properties because people want to own office. “What happened in the last governorship elections in my state, Bayelsa and Kogi State, especially in Kogi State where a woman was burnt alive in her house, is something that should not happen in any normal society. Something is fundamentally wrong with ou

The Wealthy are no Witches: Towards an Epistemology and Ideology of Witchcraft among the Igbo of Nigeria.”: Text of a Lead Paper Delivered by Damian Ugwutikiri Opata at the Professor B.I.C. Ijomah Centre for Policy Studies and Research, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium, UNN, November 26, 2019 Prof. Darmian Opata “Positivism is a position or approach that holds that the scientific method is the                only way to establish truth and objective reality. Can you imagine using scientific            method to carry out research on witches? The positivists would conclude that                  witches do not exist because the scientific method does not yield any tangible                results on the nature of witches (Balege, Chilisa, 39).” Let me start by thanking the organisers of this conference with an unusual theme for inviting me to present a Lead Paper. I thank God that all the controversies surrounding the organization of this conference seem

The England defender is a big fan of Afrobeat and he has selected one of the Nigerian artiste's songs as his favourite. While he is focused on keeping  Chelsea 's defence tidy, Fikayo Tomori revealed Burna Boy’s track 'Anybody' gets him on the dance floor any day. Tomori who was born to  Nigeria  parents in Canada, and was eligible to play for the Super Eagles at international level but pledged his allegiance to  England  - the country where he has developed his game. Since his return from a season-long loan spell at  Derby County , the 21-year-old has made himself a key player in Frank Lampard's team at Stamford Bridge and has played 14 games across all competitions for the Blues this season. After Chelsea's 2-2 draw against  Valencia  in Wednesday's Uefa  Champions League  game, Tomori picked the no. 2 track in the Grammy Awards-nominated African artiste's album as his favourite, but he was not impressed by Callum Hudson-Odoi

Emery sacked by Arsenal as Ljungberg takes temporary charge

Image
A dreadful run of form and the perception that the team lack a clear plan have seen the 48-year-old shown the exit door Arsenal  have confirmed the sacking of head coach Unai Emery after 18 months at the helm and have placed assistant Freddie Ljungberg in charge on a temporary basis. Former  Sevilla  and  Paris Saint-Germain boss Emery took over from the long-serving Arsene Wenger in May 2018 and went on to lead the Gunners to the  Europa League  final last term, ultimately losing out to Premier League rivals  Chelsea . A summer of recruitment saw Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney, David Luiz, Dani Ceballos and exciting young forward Gabriel Martinelli join the ranks as Arsenal planned to push for a return to  Champions League  football. Fortune hasn't the favoured the Gunners of late, however, with the club sitting eighth in the English top-flight and they are now without a win in seven matches in all competitions, forcing the board's hand to make a change in the dugout

Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu speaks on Goya Oil..

Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu speaks on Goya Oil... He wrote👇👇👇 Apologies to the makers of this oil. I just want to get some things straight.  Just so that you know, Goya oil was made primarily for cooking. Today, the name it is called in Nigeria market is "Anointing oil." Can Goya oil or any vegetable oil meant primarily for cooking be used for anointing? I leave that to what your faith tells you.  Anyway, that is not the reason I am writing this. I am writing this to all those who think they are doing themselves good by drinking the entire content of the bottle as a way of being spiritually powerful against the devil or for healing.  Biblically, anointing oil as anointing oil was never meant to be consumed. In all the cases in the bible, the use of anointing oil was just as the name implies, for anointing. Not for drinking. By the way, who drinks cooking oil raw? Is it healthy? Added to that, biblically you don't anoint yourself, rather, you are anointed. Someone

Summary of the just concluded Witchcraft Conference

The First International & Interdisciplinary Conference on “Witchcraft: Meanings, Factors & Practices” ADDRESS BY THE DIRECTOR, PROF. EGODI UCHENDU, AvHF, FHSN, FRDA PROFESSOR B.I.C. IJOMAH CENTRE FOR POLICY STUDIES AND RESEARCH, UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA, HELD ON TUESDAY, 26 November 2019 @ Princess Alexandra Auditorium. 1.One of the facts of human existence is that civilizations rise and fall. And with the rise and fall of civilizations, we understand that human cultures rise and fall; that there is no fixed human culture. Changes in human cultures highlight another fact: that the state of development of human societies are markedly testaments of different mindsets or ideologies that dominate and drive the majority of a people. But ideologies as dominant mindsets or worldviews that drive and ultimately define societies can be consciously or unconsciously set up or adopted. Setting up the ideological imprint of a people is one task that a University system like University o

Just Concluded Witchcraft Conference

Image
THE CONFERENCE, THE CONTROVERSY AND THE CONFUSION The university community of University of Nigeria since three days ago has been in chaos over a controversial conference slated for 26-27 of November. A conference on witchcraft? It did not go down well with several fanatics. However, I do not blame them. Witchcraft, whether we believe it or not, make up the worldview of the average African. The presence of witches and wizards are real. Besides, most of them have identified themselves with the public. In 2015, the Association of Witches and Wizards of Nigeria endorsed Goodluck Jonathan for his reelection. This aspect of our worldview has suffered misconceptions, labelling and derogation. I am not advocating for the group. I am Anglican.  Nonetheless, the study of witchcraft is an unexplored pedagogy, and in many ways I applaud the organizers. In the Caribbeans and south side of the United States, voodoo and hoodoo are trending discourses. In East Africa, especially Kenya, th
