Nsukka LGA: Mayor Asogwa Constitutes Nsukka Market Allocation and Verification Committee.
...Dissolves all Executives/Leaders of all Market Branches in Nsukka LGA.
...Sets to Constitute Caretaker Committee to Oversee Market Affairs During Investigation.
On Tuesday, October 29th, 2024, the Executive Chairman of Nsukka LGA, Engr. Jude Asogwa Chinedu-KSJI, in his commitment to finding solutions to all market related problems in the Local Government Area, inaugurated the Nsukka Market Allocation and Verification Committee charged with the responsibility of investigating and finding solutions to all market related issues currently witnessed in Nsukka.
This Nsukka Market Allocation and Verification Committee is comprised of
1. His Lordship, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah - Committee Chairman
2. His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo(JP) - Co-chairman
3. Prof. Obiamaka Egbo, SPA to the Governor on Public Financial Management - Secretary
4. Prof. Saint Ugwyoke - Asst. Secretary, and other members.
The Committee was specifically charged to deliver the following spelt out instructions:
1. Identifying all the affected markets and number of shops still allocated and not allocated in Ikpa Market, Ogige Market, Aku Road Market, Mechanic Village and Building Materials Markets, and Opi Market.
2. Verify and review all documents and authorities for such allocation.
3. Invite and interview all the affected allottees or all those with any vested interests.
4. Collate and review every document affecting or relating to the allocation to confirm its authenticity or otherwise.
5. Verify all the financial accounts, payments and authorities involved, including all the revenues generated or otherwise.
6. Review and determine any other area that may be incidental to this assignment.
7. Make recommendations to the Local Government from these findings.
8. The committee's report should be ready in six weeks.
In addition to this, the chairman announced the official dissolution of all the Chairmen and Executives of all markets involved, assuring that a caretaker committee will soon be constituted to oversee the affairs of the market, pending the report of the committee.
"While the investigation is going on, we'll set up a caretaker committee that will look after markets. Market is primarily a Local Government assignment. The core job of the executives of the unions is welfare of their members. For us to have a thorough investigation the market executives stand dissolved", he remarked.
The Mayor warned against the dangers of doing business with the already dissolved market market leaders, noting that anyone who does, is doing so at his/her own peril. "Anybody doing business with the dissolved market executives is doing that at his own risk. Whatever you do with them stand null and void. If you have any business with anyone concerning allocation, suspend it and see the committee first.", he added.
The mayor then charged the dissolved market leaders to cooperate with the committee to ensure the success of their findings, as disobeying the team means disobeying the Local Government.
Speaking on behalf of the committee chairman, Rt. Rev. Aloysius Agbo appreciated the executive chairman for this wonderful initiative, which is expected to identify, and resolve every market related problem and give justice to the deserving. He further called on everyone involved to give maximum cooperation to ease the work of the committee.
