Enugu Scholarship Board And Ignorance Of Hired Social Media Hirelings

It is on record that the Enugu State Scholarship Board which was almost moribund before Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi came into office was given new lease of life by Ugwuanyi's administration.
The appointment of the energetic, creative and dynamic young lawyer in the person of Bar. Levi Abonyi as the Executive Secretary of the Board brought a lot of innovations, expositions and transformations in the Board.
That was how many foreign partners, academic institutions and donors began to work and partner with the Board to the benefits of the teeming Enugu youths that have been benefiting from the Board many foreign scholarships and mentorship.
I was surprised seeing some social media e-rats and ignoramuses peddling video of the Board Secretary, Bar. Abonyi in his village political meeting, where he was explaining the successes and achievements of the Board under Ugwuanyi's administration.
For purpose of political mischief which has been the stock in trade of these recruited social media irritants of a disgruntled and desperate politician in the state ahead of 2023, they been mischievously peddling the video, trying to misconstrue the successes recorded by the Board so far.
They have belabored to label the Board a scam to no avail. This is because testimonies of the beneficiaries of the Scholarship programmes both at home and abroad abound.

mentorship masterclass is a programme developed and designed by the Enugu State Scholarship Board to expose Enugu students to available funding opportunities around the world.
This programme has been fully approved by the State Executive Council and since its inception, the programme has produced 27 fully-funded PhD and Masters Degree.
One very unique thing about this programme is that it prepares some fresh graduates to enrol directly into PhD programmes without first obtaining a Master's Degree.
The students receive from the funding agencies an average amount of about 30 to 40 thousand dollars per annum as living expenses in addition to the tuition and other sundry fees which together represent about 100 million naira for a PhD programme.
The programme is run by highly qualified and experienced scholars from Ivy League Universities who are driven more by the passion to give back to the society that produced them rather than monetary considerations.
The programme is designed in such a way that each mentor is assigned between 10 to 15 mentees. The role of the mentor here is akin to that of an academic supervisor who directs and edits your research work.
The mentorship masterclass is a platform for the intending mentees to be screened and possibly shortlisted for the mentorship which eventually continues as either webinar classes or direct zoom meeting or WhatsApp chat between the mentor and the mentee.
The aim of this programme is principally to encourage our students to become more scholarly as no society develops without research with its attendant inventions and discoveries.
It is worthy of note that the state government has no power to determine who gets this funding but same is largely dependent on the student’s commitment to the mentorship programme.
On the economic side of the programme, it helps to save the state government so much resources because the money which would have been used to train these students can be channelled into other developmental projects with its multiplier effects on economic growth.
Our goal is to produce a generation of intellectuals who will be better equipped to turn the state around economically and who will equally be better disposed to compete globally.
It is high time people should draw a line between partisan politics and the future of the youths which lies in sound education and exposure.
Everything should not be politicise, not education or scholarship that will shape the future of our youths.
Enugu Scholarship Board under Ugwuanyi's administration has remained a reference point beyond the state because of the successes it has recorded.
